Depending on demand and the current situation in our workshop, we offer uppermaking workshops for individuals or groups of up to four people.
Here we benefit from our experience in teaching at vocational schools, at conferences abroad and, above all, from our twenty years of involvement at the Academy of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts, where we taught master orthopaedic shoemakers in uppermaking.
The workshops are offered in both German and English.
The content of the workshops can be tailored to the participants. The workshops consist of theoretical content and practical exercises. Possible topics include:
- Designing Uppers using the Geometric system
- Designing Uppers using Charles Hatfield’s last copying method
- Making a Standard and sectional patterns
- Understanding the nature of leather and clicking/cutting
- Skiving (by machine and by hand)
- Closing and it’s methodology
- Understanding the range of fasteners
- Best practice for Orthopaedic patient fittings
- Special features of Orthopaedic footwear
- Unique aspects of bespoke shoemaking
- Specialised shoemaking tool knowledge and knife sharpening
